Q & A
Dr. Jörg Reichenberger
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When can I expect to get the final information for my procedure?
You can expect to receive the final preparation details for your procedure approximately one week before your appointment, unless they’ve already been provided. If not handed to you immediately, the receptionist will ensure the following are sent out:
- Your prescription (script).
- Authorization codes to contact your medical aid.
- Dietary instructions to follow before the procedure.
If your appointment is approaching and you haven’t received these yet, it’s a good idea to check in with the practice to confirm everything is on track.
Do I need a GP referral?
- Medical Aid Requirements: Many schemes require a GP referral to approve specialist consultations or procedures.
- Clinical Continuity: A referral ensures your GP has assessed your symptoms and supports the need for further investigation.
If you’re unsure whether your specific case requires one, it’s best to check directly with your medical aid.

Please Note
As our practice is located within the hospital, Dr Reichenberger may be called away for emergencies. While we do our best to keep to schedule, occasional delays may occur. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
Do the procedures take place in our rooms?
Most procedures are performed in our rooms, provided there are no high-risk factors such as uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes. Our practice is equipped with a fully functional in-house theatre, allowing us to safely carry out a wide range of procedures on-site.
Exceptions
Some procedures—such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)—require specialized hospital equipment and are therefore conducted in the hospital theatre.
We’ll always let you know in advance where your procedure will take place, based on your individual health profile and the clinical requirements.
Should the doctor take biopsies – how long before I get feedback?
After biopsies are collected, the samples are sent to the laboratory for analysis. This may take 3–4 days, however, please expect possible delays.
If no abnormalities or areas of concern are detected, no further communication will be issued.
